The Manhattan Declaration

As a rule, I do not believe that signing a piece of paper does anything by itself. So, when these things like this Manhattan Declaration come along, I look it over then ignore it.  Seriously, why would signing this document change anything? It doesn’t. Either stand up yourself and go do something (ie. on federal, state, or local levels) or don’t. Adding your name to this document is just lazy. It says, “Yeah I care about that, but not enough to speak up about it in places and ways that can affect actual change.”

Now before you go and say, “Well, so-and-so signed it and they are speaking up about such-and-such.” Yes, that may be true. But in those cases these people were already speaking on these issues and until now did not need a document to affirm their actions.

So, I say to you, if you believe that abortion is wrong, that marriage should be between one man and one woman, that religion should not be ousted by the state, then do something about it! Don’t just sign some document that amounts to nothing. Write your representatives! Dialogue with those you disagree with! Do something rather than nothing!
