Those Neighbors

This story needs a little bit of set up. First, my wife and I live on the second floor of an apartment building. Under our living room is our garage (which is connected via private stairwell). Under my home office is a detached garage which someone uses for storage. Then, under our bedroom is a third garage which is connected to a first floor apartment. Maybe this wasn’t the best way to design an apartment, but we should’ve known that going in and, for the most part, have enjoyed ourselves here.

Ok, so onto the story. At 5:30 this morning (and actually most any morning) my wife and I were woken up briefly by the garage beneath us opening and closing their garage door over and over. Why they can’t figure out that once is enough is beyond me.

Ride QuietlyThen a guy down there had problems starting his motorcycle. So, he got someone else to help jump it using his truck. So, for about twenty minutes we here them trying to get enough juice over to the bike to get it on, talking loudly back and forth. Finally, they get the bike turned on. I must tell you, this is not just any motorcycle. This motorcycle would interfere with any rock band’s performance it’s so loud (and that’s just when it’s idling).

This guy then takes off on the bike, must be going fifty through the parking lot. Finally out the gate he goes and back down the highway (which we can hear him loudly roar down). Gone at last, someone down there opens and closes the garage several more times and it’s over.

But wait, now my wife and I are completely awake. This whole scene is repeated on an almost daily basis. It’s getting just plumb annoying. We tried talking to them once when they first moved in, but it was clear they wanted nothing to do with us. We’ve called the apartment, but they can’t be here at 5:30 in the morning to make sure he doesn’t do this. We would call the police, but by the time they get here the guy would be gone. So, what to do? What to do?
