Biblical Languages in the Church

Here are a quick couple of question and I’ll let you all roll with it. Do you think that it is a good idea to teach Greek and Hebrew in the local church? If so, when would you do it? During Sunday School? As a home team? What texts would you use? Would you do it differently than in a classroom setting? If you don’t think this is a good idea, why not?

  1. If enough people are interested in learning the languages then it’s a good idea. But if some zealous pastor tries to force feed his/her congregation Greek and Hebrew then it’s not worth it. I’d think that a special class devoted to just the languages would be ideal. I wouldn’t recommend using Sunday school or Bible study classes to do it if there are people who regularly attend who aren’t interested in the languages but are interested in the Bible.

  2. Nick’s right–it depends on the congregation.
