Library Time

Wondering how many of you spend any amount of time in the library reading, doing research, working on projects, whatever. Do you prefer a city library or an academic/theological library? Or do you prefer doing that work elsewhere? How much time do you spend each week in the library or wherever you do ‘library’ type of work?

  1. School library! Already there for class, might as well. Plus they have lots of theological ref books if needed or if I get bored!

  2. The only time I go to the (public) library is when I take my daughter to check out books. Princeton Seminary isn’t too far from me and I suppose that I could find out if I could use their library, but I’ve found it more convenient to build myself a small theological library so that I can study at home any time of the day.

  3. One great thing about teaching at Baylor is taking advantage of their faculty delivery option. Basically, any book or article I want, be it in our library or ILL, will be delivered directly to my faculty mailbox. It’s pretty sweet. Yesterday was the first time I had been in the Baylor library in months (well, that may be a bit of an exaggeration, but close enough!).

    • Lucky dog!

    • That’s amazing. But don’t you miss out on the feeling of wandering through the library and coming across a book that you never knew existed yet happens to have the answers to something you were just asking?

Or am I totally left field in having that happen to me so often?

      • That happens to me. But it sure would be nice to have some books delivered straight to me rather than go all the way up to the library and hunt them down.

  4. I spend at least 40 hours a week in a theological library. Then again, I am a theological reference librarian! 🙂 Nothing beats the serendipity of finding a choice resource just by browsing the shelves!

    • That must be nice. I’ve tried applying for a position at DTS’s library, but to no avail. I could spend my whole day surrounded by books. 🙂

      • There’s a certain ironic twist to working in a library… You are surrounded by books that you are not allowed to read during the time when you are working at the library because you’ve got to do other kinds of fun things like data entry, reshelving, helping folks with copiers, etc.
