House Hunt

I’ve been looking for a house for a few weeks now. My price range has been very, very low, so I’ve mainly viewed foreclosures. Well, today I put a bid in on a HUD home! This will be my first house if everything gets approved. I’ll know if they accept my offer on Monday and then it’s on to the process of qualifying for the loan that I pre-qualified for. I’m very excited!

This is the house that I’m hoping to turn into a home. It needs a different shade of paint outside (and a whole lot of paint inside), but I think I’ve got myself a good deal! If it ends up being the place for me, I’ll take a bunch of before and after shots as I work.

Unexpected Absence

I just want to apologize. I say in one post that I’m back, then I’m basically gone for about two weeks! Sorry, guys. Work has been very strange lately. This past week I was filling in for a second shift guy who was on vacation (2pm-10:30pm), so I really haven’t been able to be on here or studying Greek (or doing many other things) as much as I’d hoped. This next week should prove better though.

BD’s Back, Tell a Friend!

I am officially back! A lot has happened in the past several months. Not much has happened that I feel is appropriate to post to the whole interweb, so I’m going to have to leave it at that.

I’ve not really kept up with biblio-blogdom as I would’ve liked, so I’m counting on you all to fill me in on anything critical that I should know about. I did notice, however, that Larry Hurtado is blogging now!!! I’m very excited to see him enter this arena and have enjoyed what I’ve seen at his blog so far.

I have to admit that I have not glanced at my Greek NT, grammar, vocabulary, etc during my time away. I started to remedy this last week and am currently working through Mounce’s latest update to his intro grammar. Now, I know most of this already, but hope to cement the material in my head and catch anything I missed before moving on to Wallace’s massive volume (to be followed by BDF and/or Robertson).

Needless to say, these next few months will be heavy on Greek related postings. Maybe one day I might get to the level of blogging on the subject that Mike Aubrey has achieved. That’s going to take a long while though!

I’m going to steer away from my old style of pointing out other posts that I found beneficial. That became more of a way to attract views than anything else. That’s not to say that I won’t dialogue with material on others’ blogs, but I will not simply regurgitate what’s already been said. I think ending this practice will not give me the viewership I had before, but that’s not what I care about any more. I want substance in my posts, not subsistence for my blog!

So, what do you say? Shall we have another go at this?

I’ll Be Back Soon

Hey all! Long time, no read, write (or ‘rithmetic). I just want to let you know that my hiatus is nearly over, so be on the lookout!

I’ll be back…soon.

Hiatus

I’m a bit sad to say this, but this blog needs to be put on hiatus for now. I’m not gone, but I’ve got other things I need to take care of in my life right now instead of updating this thing. I don’t know how long I’ll be away, but it’s got to be.

Jury Duty

Today I went in to downtown Ft. Worth for jury duty. Fortunately for me I didn’t have to stay the whole day. I did bring along Moo’s James commentary just in case though.

They had all 700 of us sit in a room where they played a cheesy video about serving on a jury. Then those with exemptions/disqualifications were asked to come up to plead their case to get out. That took about half an hour. Then they started assigning people to courts. Since it’s Friday there were only two courts looking for jurors today, so only 80 people were taken.

I on the other hand (along with 59 others) was given a questionnaire and assigned to a court for Monday at 10:30.

It’s nice to be out for the day and to be able to go in a little later on Monday, but I’m still worried about the length of this thing. I guess I’ll know more come Monday.

Blogger’s Block

Lately, I’ve been suffering from a bit of blogger’s block. All you need for proof of this is to scroll down the page to see what little I have written in the past month or so (especially in relation to NT studies – this blog’s main purpose). Pray for me to be able to think a bit more. I feel like with all the job hunting I’ve done thus far, my brain has called in sick for a while. Anyway, I do have a few posts today (can you believe it?), so I’ll get on that.

Jump Rope

How long has it been since you’ve jumped rope? For a lot of us I’m sure we last did it as a child. Well, I just completed a mean little ten minutes on a jump rope and, let me tell you, it’s a lot harder than a remember. I had hoped to do 3x that much, but I just couldn’t.

Partly to blame, I suppose, is my fitness level (which I’ve been working on daily for three months :) ). Still, jumping rope is tough. Seriously, just go try to do it for three minutes. I can almost guarantee it’s not like you remember.

I’m going to keep jumping rope every day from now on and hopefully it’ll help. I’m already running every day (by running a mean walking with spurts of jogging, but it’s getting better) and weight training a couple times a week. This’ll become just another part of my overall fitness training.

In the future I want to add some heavy bag and speed bag training, as well as some plyometrics exercises. I’m hoping to be in the best shape of my life by year’s end and hope to start boxing by the spring, so any advice would be awesome.

Summons

I headed down to the mail center at our apartment a little bit ago. When I reached into our box I pulled out a jury summons!

I’ve never had jury duty before, but I’m not too thrilled. The timing is just not good. I’m trying to find a job after all! Also, since we only have the one car right now, it’s going to be awfully tough getting to and from there. And the day that I have to appear also happens to be the day that Brooke’s family is going to be in town. We’ll have to see how this works out.

My New Favorite Thing

After my wife got off work today we had to run a couple checks over to the bank. Then we went to a few places she had wanted to go to and one that I’ve wanted to visit – Sports Authority.

We practically made a beeline for a section of this store which stocks equipment for a sport Brooke has given me permission to pursue – boxing! So, I tried on their Everlast gloves (I know there are better ones out there, but I just wanted to get a feel for it) and proceeded to throw a few jabs and crosses at the 100lb bag they have up. We got a few looks, but I don’t really care. It felt too good. Brooke tried some MMA bag gloves on and enjoyed punching the bag with those, so maybe she’s got some hope for some MMA training in the future.

Once I get a job, I fully intend to invest in getting some gloves, a heavy bag (and heavy bag stand), and a few other things. Here’s a question though: what size heavy bag do you recommend? I punched that 100lb bag and it was moving around a bit. Should I look at a heavier one or start with that?
