I haven’t heard anything about the Biblical Studies Carnival in a while now. I thought maybe the conversation about it was happening amongst some blogs I don’t normally check out (and maybe it has). So, earlier I asked Joel if he had any idea where it was this month and he said that he hasn’t [...]

I just learned (via Joel) that a 7.3 magnitude earthquake also rattled Japan. It’s epicenter was 53 miles east of Naha, Okinawa. What a crazy morning it has already been! So many people are in need of prayer today. Take the time out to do so. MSE

The earthquake that caused so much devastation in Chile this morning still has coming effects. A possible tsunami triggered by the quake could be heading toward the Hawaiian coasts. People there are now evacuating to higher ground. Again, pray for the people who are hurt, being displaced and panicked because of this catastrophe. MSE

Another earthquake happened last night, this time in Chile. It was a magnitude 8.8 and hit about 200 miles south of Santiago (the capitol). I don’t know all the specifics of it (the news will take care of that), but I’m sure there are people who are hurting right now. Be in prayer for them [...]

Here is my most recent definition of patience, as I learned first-hand today. I think patience is standing around quietly in an antique store for hours while your mother-in-law looks at everything . . . twice. If there is a better definition, as of today, I don’t know it. MSE

This weekend (actually late tonight), Brooke’s two youngest sisters (ages 5 and 11, I think) and mother will be here. It’s going to be a little whirlwind of a weekend. They’re hitching a ride with two ladies coming to a homeschooling conference in Irving. From what I know, these two haven’t gotten a hotel room [...]

Tonight in Bible study we started working our way through James 2. Almost right away we ran into a slight difference of opinion. In v2 we read For if someone comes into your assembly . . . (NET) The word that the NET translates “assembly” is συναγωγὴν. Now, we were trying to decide what this [...]

How many of you have ever asked someone this question: How sure are you of your salvation? What kind of answer are you expecting to this? Pretty sure? Sort of sure? It doesn’t matter one bit how sure someone is of their salvation. Either they have faith in Christ for salvation or they don’t! There [...]

I just received a complimentary copy of Studies in the Gospel of Mark by Martin Hengel. Wipf and Stock was kind enough to send it over for review posthaste (posthaste = word of the day). I somehow expected it to be larger. With all the citations I see of it in some books lately, it [...]
