Tomorrow’s Translation

I’m going to attempt another translation tomorrow. It’s been a couple of weeks (family visits, job hunting, and a little bit of laziness got in the way), but I’m going to do it again. So, what do you say? What passage from the NT or AF should I translate tomorrow? MSE

Jealousy: Green-Eyed Monster or God?

This morning in our new 20somethings Bible study we talked about this verse: For you must not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God. (Ex 34:14, NET) This raises some questions that many have used to combat God, calling him an egomaniac. How could God be jealous? Isn’t [...]

Rome: Rise and Fall of an Empire

I’ve been watching a History Channel series on the rise and fall of Rome that my sweet wife checked out from the library for us. I can hardly believe that she’s been watching it with me. Anyways, it’s not half bad, but it does leave out much. Though I imagine it’s hard to fit everything [...]

Men’s Meeting vs. James Study

I’m in a position where I need to choose whether to remain in the men’s group meetings on Wednesday nights at my church or to switch over to a Bible study on James. I’d hate to disappoint the guys, but I may go ahead and change over. I’m thinking that I might have more of [...]

The Date of Mark: External Evidence

Over the years there have been quite a few dates put forth for the second gospel’s publication (publication here means put out for the public to have, hold, copy, etc). These range from as early as AD42 all the way to the second century. Here I am going to list a few of the external [...]

Your Own Personal Jesus

Here’s a great quote from Robert Bowman and Ed Komoszewski’s Putting Jesus in His Place, which I just started reading last night: Interpretations of Jesus are fraught with bias. He’s a powerful figure whom people want on their sides – and they’re willing to re-create him in their image to enlist his support. Animal-rights activists [...]

Just In

Over the past couple days I’ve been looking to see if my copy of ZIBBCOT has arrived. I went down to the apartment’s mail center today and saw a package much too small to be ZIBBCOT. I got it out (along with my other mail) and brought it back to the apartment. Inside I found [...]

Blogger’s Block

I believe that I am suffering from blogger’s block as of late. It’s a little tough to know what to blog right now. I’ve been reading a few things and hopefully a review will pop up in the next week. I also need to get back to translating (something that hasn’t happened for a couple [...]

Where’s Dave Black?

I’m just wondering if anyone else out there is having trouble accessing Dave Black’s blog? When I click on it absolutely nothing comes up. It’s a blank page. Surely Dr. Black hasn’t left us humble (for the most part) bibliobloggers alone! Surely this is just a problem on either my end or his. Someone let [...]

Membership

Today we officially joined the church that we’ve been attending for the past few months. I’ve been anxious about it because of the last place we were at, but I can definitely serve at this church and love every bit of it. MSE
