Song of Seikilos

There was a YouTube video floating around the blogs recently of a 3rd century manuscript, POxy XV 1786, which contains the oldest Christian hymn with musical notation. This allowed for a reproduction of the music.

While exploring YouTube after listening to that, I found a 1st century song (actually between 200 BC and 100 AD), the song of Seikilos. It is the oldest example of a complete composition anywhere. It was found as an epitaph on a grave marker in Aidin, Turkey (near Ephesus). Some of you probably came across this video as well, but those who haven’t yet should give it a listen:
